Meet Mei from China

Say, "nee haow."

Good job! That's "Nǐ hǎo" in Chinese, which means “Hello” in English. It's a great way to make Mei smile and become friends with her. Mei is from China. Although Mei is new to your country, she is super excited to make new friends and pretend play.

You’ll be amazed at what Mei has in her wardrobe when it comes to clothing. China has 56 different ethnic groups, each with unique traditional clothing. Two well-known traditional clothes for Chinese women are:

The Hanfu is traditional Han Chinese clothing worn by the Han ethnic group, which makes up over 90% of the Chinese population. A Hanfu has several parts but looks like a long, flowing robe. The robe has loose sleeves and a belt that fastens around the waist. Hanfus aren't worn daily; they are saved for festivals or special celebrations like weddings, coming-of-age, or rite-of-pass ceremonies.

Cheongsam—Also called Qipao, Cheongsam is a high-necked, close-fitting gown-style dress with the skirt slit partway up the side. It looks gorgeous! In some areas of China, like Hong Kong, girls like Mei wear a Qipao as part of their school uniform.

Use dress templates from the Design or Create section to create a fabulous traditional dress for Mei. You can also choose colored dresses from the Play section to find a specific dress in the color that matches her personality. Have fun with Mei!
